Microloc Braids with Extension on soft hair. Installed by Twyla at Styles by T LLC.
Microlocs are a long-term commitment that require consistency, proper maintenance, and professional care.
The following information outlines what is required when starting and maintaining microlocs with Styles by T LLC.
• Soft hair textures: slippage and unraveling may occur during the early stages
• Curly hair textures: frizz is common and part of the locking process
• Coarse hair textures: shrinkage and frizz are normal
• Straighter hair textures: higher likelihood of slippage and unraveling
Early-stage frizz, swelling, and pattern visibility are expected as locs mature.
• Maintenance is typically recommended every 4–6 weeks
• Some clients may extend to 8 weeks depending on growth rate
• Clients who exceed the recommended maintenance window may not be eligible for standard retie services and may require repairs or a new consultation.
• Excessive delays between appointments can lead to matting, thinning, or costly repairs
• Consistency is essential for uniform growth and long-term scalp health
Remaining with one loctician is strongly recommended to maintain consistency in size, parting, and technique.
• Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled before leaving your current visit
• All appointments must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance.
• Irregular maintenance can result in loc damage that may require repair services
Same-day or last minute appointments are not accepted.
• Avoid excessive wetting, especially with extensions during early stages
• Braid and band before washing
• Allow hair to dry completely before removing braids
• Use heat protectant if blow drying
• Sleep with a satin bonnet or pillowcase
• Avoid heavy creams and conditioners that may cause buildup or slippage
Install Time
• Twist Method: approximately 1 full service day
• Braid Method: typically 2 consecutive service days
Hair Provided
• 100% unprocessed human hair (10–14 inches) based on availability
• Custom lengths and colors may be available at additional cost
• Extensions blend and mature into permanent locs
• Pattern visibility fades as locs mature (braids take longer)
• Swelling, shrinkage, and frizz are normal parts of the process
Extensions require consistent maintenance. Without proper upkeep, extensions may loosen or fall out and will require additional services to correct.
• Coarse hair: Twist method often recommended
• Soft or fine hair: Braid method may reduce slippage, especially on shorter lengths
• Frizz is normal and part of the locking process
• Slippage may occur in short, soft, or frequently wet hair
• Roots are interlocked for durability and structure
• Light aloe-based loc spray for moisture
• Lightweight oil to seal moisture
• Water mist bottle before oil application
• Rosemary oil (growth support)
• Peppermint oil (scalp stimulation)
• Tea tree oil (dry or itchy scalp)
• Lightweight shine sprays formulated for locs
Using lightweight, loc friendly products is recommended to prevent buildup, slippage, and scalp issues,
